What is a ChampionChip?

A ChampionChip is a miniature transponder in a specially designed housing, marked with a unique identification number. The transponder is a waterproof glass capsule that contains a silicon chip and an energizing coil. The ChampionChip can be used under all weather conditions, wet and dry, cold and hot.
There are different kind of chips available, these are usually identified by the colour of the chip:

  The Yellow Chip
Participants can buy their own yellow chip which can be used in almost any event using the ChampionChip Timing System all over the world, all you need to do is inform the event organizers of your Chip Code.
  The Black Chip*
Black Chips are issued by the event and can only be used once, you cannot buy a black chip. The chips should be returned to the organizers after the race.
  The Single-Use Chip (White)
SU Chips are issued at events and can only be used once.
Some SU Chips may have the event logo on and can be kept by the participant as a souvenir instead of returning it to the timers. However, the SU Chip cannot be used at any other event.
  The Blue Chip*
These are only currently available in a few countries and are kept by the participants after they're used. The price or deposit is lower than that of the yellow chip but a fee should be paid if the participant wants to use the blue chip again. Unlike the yellow chip, the blue one can only be used in a specific country and cannot be used internationally.
