FAQs
Why are there different coloured chips?
Different colours indicate different types of chips. Yellow chips are owned by the athlete and can be used in any number of events, black chips are rental chips and should be returned to the event organizers after a race and white Single Use chips can only be used once, afterwards they can either be returned or kept as a souvenir.

I bought a yellow chip in Europe, can I use it in an event in the Middle East?
Yes, your yellow chip can be used in any event using ChampionChip timing anywhere in the world, regardless of where you bought it from. You need to inform the event organizers of your chip code to ensure you get your results!
I have a white souvenir chip, can I use it again?
No, all white chips are Single Used chips and can only be used once for the event that issued them.
Should I have different chips for cycling and running?
Yes, the miniature transponder in a ChampionChip is housed in a waterproof glass capsule which means you can swim with it and use it under all weather conditions - wet, dry, cold and hot. Just don't put it in a microwave oven!
Why was my time not recorded? I was holding my ChampionChip in my hand the whole time!
The time is recorded as the chip crosses over the antennas in the mats, therefore it should be placed as close to the ground as possible: on your shoe or on a specially designed Velcro strap to be worn no higher than your ankle. If you carry the chip in your hand, on a wrist-band or in your pocket your time will NOT be recorded. Your ChampionChip should be in place at all times during the race, at the start, at split points and at the finish in order to get your results.
You can find out more about how to use your ChampionChip to ensure accurate results.
Why is my time online different from my stopwatch?
The results posted online are normally GROSS times, that is starting at gun time and ending at the time you cross the finish line. If you start your stopwatch at the moment you cross the start line, this is your NET time. This can be different than your gross time depending on where you are in the queue to the start and how long it takes you to get to the start line. Depending on the event and the timing and results providers, you should be able to get your detailed results (net, gross and split times) online.
Why the ruling "No chip, no result!"?
Events using electronic timing systems such as ChampionChip rely on these systems to get the complete results. If you’re not wearing a chip or if you have attached your chip incorrectly, your time will not be recorded and the event organizers cannot issue you with a result. If you lose your chip or you're not sure how to wear it correctly, you should contact the event organizers as soon as possible to fix the issue before the race.
How do I know what my chip code is?
Your chip code is a 7 digit code of the format AB-1BL7H, if you're using your own (yellow) chip you will need to give this code to the organizers. Depending on the type of chip you're using, the code can be found either on the central tube (original chip) or at the top of the circle (souvenir chips) (See images below)
Single Use (white) chips do not have a chip code.
Why are official results based on gross time and not net time?
In most sports events the final results and places of the winners are based on the order in which they cross the finish line and not the actual time it takes them to get from the start to the finish. For example, take 2 runners taking part in the same event. One of them is at the front of the queue to the start line and crosses the start line at exactly 8:00:00 AM. The other one, at the back of the queue, crosses the start line at 8:00:30. The first one crosses the finish line at 9:00:00, completing the race in 60 minutes and the other finishes at 9:00:15. His gross time is 60:15 but his net time is 59:45, 15 seconds faster than the first runner. But as he crossed the finish line after the first runner he will be given second place (according to his gross time).
ChampionChip will record both gross and net times but only the gross time will be taken into consideration for the official results, net times are used by individual runners to keep track of their performance.
I lost my ChampionChip a few days before the race, what can I do?
If you lose a chip before the event, contact the event organizers as soon as possible to arrange getting a replacement. Depending on the rules and regulations of the event, a fee or deposit may be required.
I lost my ChampionChip but a friend of mine can't make it on race day, can't I just use his/her chip instead?
No, each ChampionChip is unique and is linked to one individual participant. Using your friend's chip means that you will not have accurate results. You need to contact the event organizers to arrange a replacement of your chip which is linked to your personal information.
Can I use a ChampionChip together with a running pod?
The ChampionChip can be used together with foot monitors, like the Nike Triax, Polar pods etc. Just attach the ChampionChip on the other foot than the pod.
I'm taking part in a triathlon, can I swim wearing my ChampionChip?
Yes, the miniature transponder in a ChampionChip is housed in a waterproof glass capsule which means you can swim with it and use it under all weather conditions - wet, dry, cold and hot. Just don't put it in a microwave oven!
